Title: Big News

Pairing: Shunya/Naomi
Rating: PG
Words: 1068
Summary: Shunya and Naomi lived happily ever after… ;)
Notes: I wrote this fanfic last year after I watched the movie but I had completely forgotten about it until last week. Now that everyone has probably seen the movie, I can post it. It’s maybe the first and last time that I post a fanfic here.

“Renkun, can you switch off the TV and go to the bedroom with Tomoko? I’ll be with you in a moment,” Naomi said while washing the last dishes from dinner. She smiled when she saw Ren doing what she asked him to, taking Tomoko by the hand. Although they weren’t connected by blood they had a strong bond like real siblings. Well, Tomoko just turned two the other day and Ren had always been at her side so she wouldn’t think of anything except a brother of him, Naomi guessed.

Naomi was so happy how this situation had turned out. She had a wonderful and supportive husband and two wonderful children – and in some months, there will be another one. This time she wouldn’t hide it. She’d tell Shunya as soon as he was home today.

She still remembered how he had proposed to her, a few weeks after everything about Tommy’s curse had calmed down. He had been looking forward to become a real family, despite everything that had happened in the past and because of everything that had happened. And he had surprised her another few weeks later when he had shown her all the files they had to look through in order to adopt Ren. Naomi had never said that she wanted to adopt Ren openly but Shunya had clearly seen through her. He had known that Naomi would be the only one that could understand Ren’s feelings.

“And since it will be a lot of trouble to have one child anyway, it won’t matter to have two of them. The more the merrier,” Shunya had said and taken her hand, “I’m sure we can do it.”

Yes, Naomi was sure that Shunya would be happy to hear this news. She wanted to see his smile that she loved so much that’s why she hadn’t mailed him directly after she had went to the doctor.

“Mom, Tomoko took my plush toy and won’t give it back!” Ren shouted from the bedroom.

“You gave it to me yesterday!” Tomoko shouted back.

“But it was just for one-“ Ren stopped when Naomi appeared in the room.

“Tomochan, what did I tell you about borrowing and giving back?” she asked and Tomoko pouted cutely. But Naomi wasn’t easily tricked by that. She sat down next to Tomoko and Ren. “If you give it back to Ren, I’ll read your favourite story. Ok?”

“Not again~” Ren sighed. He had heard the story so often he could tell it by heart already. Or so he said.

“I thought you want your toy back,” Naomi teased him.

“Ok,” both Tomoko and Ren said at the same time, agreeing with the deal. Tomoko gave the toy back to Ren and then they laid down next to Naomi, each on one side, and listened to Tomoko’s favourite lullaby story. Soon the children were asleep and Naomi stood up again. It was almost 9 pm, Shunya was late again.

Shunya got off at his station and walked home. It was about ten minutes from the station to their home. Ever since he had changed the company he stopped going to work by car. It was easier by train now.

He had changed the company after everything about Tommy had happened. His boss had teased him about suddenly being so involved in the case and the dropping it in an instant. But Shunya couldn’t tell about what had happened. It had been something between Naomi, Ren and him. No one would understand it anyway.

After a while the teasing still hadn’t stopped so he started to look for another job. That’s when he had seen an advertisement for a weekly newspaper which had featured a corner about parental advising. As he himself had been short before becoming a parent as well he had been interested and applied for a job for that newspaper. In his job interview he had been talking about the corner that had made him interested in the newspaper and he only later had got to know that the writer of it had been present as well. And for some reason he had gotten the job there. At first he had been in charge of the sports corner of the newspaper but with all the researching about parenting he did, talking to Naomi who was a nurse after all and several conversations with the person in charge of the parental advising corner he had started to co-work in that corner and it had become popular in a short time.

In general, it had been the best decision to change jobs but the only disadvantage was that he was very busy from time to time. That’s why he spent all the free time he could get with Naomi, Tomoko and Ren. On the other hand, being in co-charge for a parental advising was very handy when he excused himself from going to drink after work. And he also took off a day once in a time to be with his family without problems.

He couldn’t imagine being any happier than he was now.

“Welcome home,” Naomi said when she heard the door open.

“I’m home,” Shunya replied when he entered and closed the door behind him, “Sorry I’m so late. But it’s finally weekend tomorrow at least.” He smiled when he saw Naomi sitting at the kitchen table, next to her was his dinner. Naomi smiled back.

“Sit down, I’ll heat the dinner up again.” Shunya did as he was told and was looking forward to eat his wife’s delicious meal – he was quite hungry after all.

Naomi was looking at him while he was eating. She couldn’t stop smiling.

“Is there something funny on my face?” Shunya asked puzzled. Naomi shook her head.

“No.”

“Your best friend came over in the afternoon?”

“No.”

“There’s something good on TV tonight?”

“No.”

“Ah, you’re looking forward to tomorrow’s trip to the zoo?”

“No. I mean, yes, I look forward to it, but that’s not the reason why…” Naomi stopped and Shunya looked a little frustrated at not guessing the reason.

“What is it?!” Naomi laughed. Shunya was so cute when he got frustrated.

Then Naomi took out the small photo. “We’ll be five soon.” Shunya’s eyes moved back and forth between the photo and Naomi’s face before starting into a big smile.

“That are the best news I’ve heard for a while.”
