Hashimoto Taito
He's done one year of hard work as Kazari.
This autumn he will act in 9th D-STAGE "Kensatsugawa no Shounin".
We thought that he's resting right now but he's being very active.
In this interview, Takahashi Ryuki will also talk sometimes.
--Thank you for your hard work of Kazari in Kamen Rider OOO.
Thank you very much! Because I love Kamen Rider series originally, I feel like this one year just finished in one moment, like a quick attack. The staff was also really kind, so I really would have liked to stay longer in that place.
--Kazari as a villain also had an impact in the whole story. Did you get a lot of reaction, including fans?
Actually I don’t care much about what people around me say when I’m working…
--Really? We got some post cards saying things like “Kazari is a person from D-BOYS”.
Wah, really? I’m really happy about that!
--Might there not be a lot of people who got to know the actor Hashimoto Taito because of Kazari?
I’m happy if it’s like that! When I first got the script, I thought that Kazari is an unpleasant guy. But with that I might be noticed, I thought. I wonder if it’s like that? If so, I achieved my goal!
--Did you have troubles?
I had some text with words I didn’t know. “What’s cell? What’s core? What’s greed?” It started with things like that, actually (laugh).
--Through acting as Kazari, was there anything that you will take to your heart?
I love heroes, but I also like the villains a lot. And wasn’t Kazari even more cruel than the other bad guys? I thought that, if I already have to act as a villain, then the cruelest one would be good, and it looked delicious (laugh). Kazari is a really cowardly guy and he’s almost too cautious… That quite backfired; he had some scenes where he got taken some cores, right? Actually he was a guy who is weak inside.
--Did you think that those weak parts were cute?
No no, not at all. I was thinking that he is “nothing but a detestable person”. That’s why I practiced to make a detestable face in front of the mirror at home for a long time.
--Did you feel empathy for Kazari in the end?
Yes. Thinking like that but saying it… thinking like that is somehow similar to Kazari (laugh). Also, because I’m shy I don’t expose myself. And I tend to create a wall around myself…
“And me~ How was it when you met me for the first time?” (Ryuki)
The first time we met? Ryu was very small and cute.
“But sometimes you’re using a forced smile, right? Because Taito is a person who is very considerate!” (Ryuki)
I see! But if I meet a person several times and we talk and I think that the person is a kind person, I’ll become good friends with that person.
--After acting Kazari for one year, did you get new confidence?
I’m still far away. I got to see clearly what parts of the technical side and other things I’m still missing and I always thought that I want to improve my true strength. To support this, I’m using singing, I started to learn how to play the piano and I started to learn English, I guess I started to improve myself. Kazari was a good experience, but whether it helped me improving or not, that’s something different. Yes, I’m still far away.
--By the way, how exactly are you studying English?
Right now I’m doing nothing but memorizing vocabularies. Also, I’m watching movies without Japanese dub. I want to use English for music and I’m dreaming of studying abroad…
--Did you have some free time recently?
But I’m not lazing around. I don’t like leisure, I want to be involved in doing something as much as possible. For example, when I sleep, I decide how long I want to sleep… and then I wake up as planned and immediately get up and do something. Right now I’m working out, I’m studying or having piano lessons, so I’m always doing something.
--Concerning singing, sometimes we can see interaction with D2’s Yamaguchi Kenki on the blog.
Recently he was busy so we couldn’t meet, but we frequently exchange emails and gather information. Like “Kenki, how about singing this song in that way?” Before, he listened to the song I made and we get along really well.
--By the way, you’ll be acting in 9th D-BOYS STAGE “Kensatsugawa no Shounin” in October, right?
Yes. We didn’t receive the script yet, but I read the work of Agatha Christie and it was really interesting. To be honest, I’m not the type who reads novels a lot, so at first I didn’t read the book seriously. But as the story went on, I got drawn to it and it the way it ended was intense. So I received a shock and wanted to read the story again. Then I saw much foreshadowing throughout the story. The first time I want you to come and watch it without knowing the end, and the second time since you will know the end, you can look t the foreshadowing… if possible it would be good to come two times… or no, better I three times (laugh). But seriously, if you come many times, it will definitely be interesting, I think. I’m the one who is supporting the lawyer combination of Seto and Igarashi, and I’d say it’s someone who calmly watches the two quick tempered lawyers. I think that you will enjoy it more if you come without having read the original work, if possible. Because it’s a play with a strong impact, I’m happy when people come to watch it again and again.
--Is there anyone of the co-actors who you hadn’t met for a long time?
No, because we just met everyone at “Natsu doko”.
--One of the co-actors is Horii Arata who you don’t know very well?
I really was interested in what kind of a guy he is. The first time I met him, Arata was looking at goods which were standing on display and I went innocently to one side of him, made some strange movements and it made Arata frighten a lot.
--Shocking other people?
“You’re doing quite something!” (Ryuki)
But at that time he didn’t realize that it’s me, he continued to look at the goods and then he escaped. He was quite fast in escaping. Such a speed! But after that I properly introduced myself (laugh).
--By the way, you’ll become 20 this year. Congratulations!
That’s true. I want to do everything that you can finally do with 20. I want to drink alcohol and I also want to try to smoke.
“No, no, I don’t want you to change any way when you become 20.” (Ryuki)
I’m not changing but I just want to try what adults are enjoying. What else can I do? Coming of Age ceremony, I guess.
--As a sempai in Kamen Rider series, do you have any advice for Ryuki?
Uhm… nothing! (in light Kansai dialect tone)
“Nothing?” (Ryuki, also in light Kansai dialect tone)
Well… one year is just gone like a moment, so you should better treasure your time.
“Yes! I will give my best!” (Ryuki)
