I translated an interview with Usui!!! \o/
It's from Neo Actor Vol.13 and he talks about Misaki No.1, the merchant of Venice and Maho Shojo wo wasurenai!

With his appearances in “Misaki No.1!!”, which is airing right now, and also in a movie and a stage play, he doesn’t have time to relax this spring. Usui who’s in last part of being in his 10’s, let’s create glittering memories!
--- The character Ando Masahiro in “Misaki No.1!!”. His hairdo is impressive and stands out between the students.
I said “Please let me do it with this hairdo” to the producer. Before we started filming I was asked what kind of a character I’d like to create, and I was able to convey my own way’s image with my clothes, hairdo and such!
--- I see. So Usui-chan submitted the hairdo.
Maybe it was a little influenced by G-DRAGON of BIG BANG (laugh).
--- Usui-chan was paying attention to K-POP very early, right?
It was early. I was quite early, I guess.
--- You also liked KARA from quite some time ago.
I was early with KARA or Shojo Jidai. But they’re already advanced into Japan, so maybe the fever cooled down (bitter smile).
--- That might be a pattern that occurs often.
And they’re also singing in Japanese now.
--- Ando seems to be a guy who expresses his feelings relatively loudly, right?
Because he is stamped as a kid who’s bad at studying, I thought it’s good to express his ups and downs in acting. Plus, I’m trying to read the atmosphere at the set and I have the hope that if there’s some factor for my serif I can change it a little.
--- Is it a set where you can sense the feeling of freedom, like ad lib or such?
(Since I’m a playing kid who has ups and downs) I’m aiming for a performance that will at least bring a little reaction from those who are watching it. This means that I maybe don’t have a surplus of feelings. But afterwards we’ll go to eat together and such, being good friends.
--- But it’s a drama appearance after a long time, right?
I thought that the shooting is fast and it’s difficult. The teachers are also really good at acting, there’s only this to say, I really respect them. Karina is also a really lovely person. I was really happy that Karina remembered the first name of every one of us. And at Christmas, Karina gave presents or wrote a letter to each one of us and such. I’m really happy that Karina herself did approach us, that she came to us students, and I honestly thought that only people who have this responsibility can do such things. I think those people are not only as actors but rather as a person are really beautiful.
--- Please become such a person in the future.
Yes (laugh). I think that it’s really important to tighten my heart right now. However, in spring there’s also the stage play “The merchant of Venice”, so I also want to concentrate on that attitude.
--- There are only some episodes left, but please tell us some highlights of the drama.
Of course the most important is enjoying the main thread of the drama. But to tell my wish, if there are people who pay attention to me, when I’m Ando I’m not that impression but smarter I think. I’d be glad to be seen as a person who’s fighting in such a scenery, or well, just be watched over. Uhm...I'll definitely not make a disadvantage for those who’re following me, I’m trying my best to show acting where you can laugh or where it moves the feelings, so yoroshiku onegaishimasu [please treat me well].

At the introduction I thought that it’s going to be difficult. Last year I went to watch Shakespeare’s “Antonio to Cleopatra” where Hagaki Kyoichi appeared, who was taking care of me in “Kirasagi” which he directed, and beginning with actor Hira Mikijiro it was really great. To be honest, I didn’t understand what was said very well. But the nuance was being conveyed, as if I’d gone overseas to watch a play. When I went to New York with “Kirasagi” and I watched the movie “Lion King”… this kind of a feeling. I thought it’s really amazing. Maybe I’m still too young to act Shakespeare. But I think that it has a meaning that we’re doing it. I’ll memorize it, the script.
--- And you also have to research the each word of the script a little…
The goddess of the moon and the goddess of the sun, somehow the goddess of the moon was like this but the goddess of the sun like that, that’s how my feelings are now… My head is already about to explode!

As expected, an actor has to read the book with heart and when there’s something one doesn’t understand one has to research history, read, watch and know it. I guess that it’s the most important to know.
--- As the main for D-BOYS STAGE, give your best, new Usui-chan. And this also like Karina cared for everyone in the drama.
Right now, I’m thinking about writing a letter to everyone first of all. “From Portia”, like a love letter. On Valentine’s Day I shall give them Tirol Chocolate (laugh).
--- Furthermore, you also have the movie “Maho Shojo wo wasurenai”.
It was so much fun! It seemed to have been hard for (Takahashi) Ryuki, but it was also fun for him! First, in Kyushu (Fukuoka) there’s delicious food~. And Ryuki was there, and I had been together with Morita Sizuka in Sentai as well, so there were people I knew and with a relieving feeling the filming started.
--- You seemed to have gotten close to Ryuki at this set in one moment.
At 3 am in the night Ryuki came knocking in the room where I was sleeping, saying “Usui-sa~n, I can’t do that anymore” and wham he landed on my bed. Because he said “Is it okay to memorize the script for tomorrow here? Please help me~” I agreed, and while I read the script, he fell asleep and didn’t wake up (laugh). I was wondering what to do but for the time being I let him sleep.
--- The characteristics you got to know because of co-acting with Takahashi Ryuki (laugh).
He’s really somehow cute, including such parts as well. It was a setting where we were best friends, so we were fooling around at that time and it was fun. At any rate it was fun. But I can’t forget when we started filming at 6 am in the morning wearing bathing suit. That was really cold. Because it was too cold for Ryuki, the distance of the steps was really really wide at the running on the sandy beach scene (laugh). We were also good friends though the stage play “Last Game”, but though this opportunity he got really annoying/noisy towards me. Whenever he has something, he’s saying like “Usui-sa~n”. Well, it’s because he’s young (laugh).
--- Still young… But it won’t change much. Then, tell us highlights of the movie.
Because of the harmonious atmosphere of everyone together was really fun, I think that this will be reflected in the movie. Then, I challenged to play the guitar a little. I received a song and it was filmed how I played the whole song properly. I practiced so much, until I got blisters. Because it’s a scene with only Maeda Aki together, it became a good tension and I’m also looking forward to see how it’s filmed, I want everyone to definitely watch it.
